DTCC has taken a stake in iCapital as part of a collaboration focused on private markets infrastructure, linking the clearing corporation's market infrastructure, processing capabilities and network with iCapital's technology platform and investment workflows.

The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

Shared rails for private investments

The two companies intend to link data, operational processes and market participants throughout the private investment lifecycle. The work is aimed at reducing operational complexity for wealth advisers and asset managers participating in private markets, and both firms plan to develop industry solutions covering operational processes, data quality and workflows across private investments.

For wealth advisers, the tie-up is intended to simplify access to and management of alternative investments in client portfolios.

For asset managers, the collaboration is intended to provide more standardised infrastructure for serving the wealth market — a client segment that has been steadily drawn toward private investment vehicles.

Integration starts with AIP

The initial focus will be further integration between DTCC's alternative investment product (AIP) and iCapital's alternative investment platform. Functions to be connected cover transaction processing, data exchange, access, administration and reporting.

The companies will also examine the use of current and emerging technologies in alternative investments, with a focus on connectivity, transaction management and operational efficiency.

Governance and technology direction

As part of the transaction, Talia Klein, head of wealth & investment solutions at DTCC, will serve as an observer on iCapital's board of directors.

iCapital chairman and CEO Lawrence Calcano said the two firms are advancing the infrastructure and standards shaping the future of private markets, and will partner on technologies that support the relationship's goals, such as blockchain enabled DLT and tokenisation where appropriate, to help build a stronger foundation for the industry's continued evolution.

The alliance reflects a broader push to standardise the operational plumbing behind private market allocations as wealth channels expand. By combining DTCC's processing scale with iCapital's platform, the partners are positioning themselves around data quality and workflow consistency rather than any single product. The stated goals stop short of specific timelines or performance claims; the near-term test will be how quickly the AIP integration translates into simplified access and reporting for advisers and managers.
