Evening on the Estuary, Southern Odesa Region

Julianna Mokritska — Evening on the Estuary, Southern Odesa Region. Oil on canvas. Plein-air landscape painted in pre-war years south of Odesa. A sunlit spit of reeds cuts across slate-blue water; a cow grazes at the bank, a figure in white bends over the grass, a village roof rests on the hazy horizon. Thick, energetic impasto in the tradition of the Odesa school of coastal landscape — light, air and the quiet rhythm of the steppe shore, by a young artist recording a place she knew intimately.
