Sourced Overview Evidence

John Marshall (1755-1835) was an American founder and Supreme Court Justice. As the Chief Justice from 1801-1835, Marshall played a decisive role in establishing the principle of judicial review and in limiting the expansion of Jacksonian Democracy during its early phase. Against Indian Removal, Marshall handed down a verdict in favor of Cherokee and United States federal sovereignty. From the exhibition: After Removal: Rebuilding the Cherokee Nation, August 25, 2017 - January 21, 2018. Curated by Dr. Duane King & Dr. Natalie Panther, 2017.
